The principal point in the keeping of birds is a correct feeding for them. Usually the cage birds are a type of granivorous ones they can be parrots, canaries, pigeons etc. Owing to the name of the species people feed them only with seeds, that is not right. But in fact such birds vary their food every season in natural conditions. Birds like to diversify their meal with different kinds of animal forages, greens, fruits, tree barks etc. So, feed your bird with large variety of meal and it will be healthy.

Today one may purchase wild bird seed practically everywhere, even online. As you see you can't feed your bird an entire year with seeds because it wouldn't harmonize with their natural nutrition.

There are many different cases when birds eat the same forage for years and nothing happens, but illnesses not always reveal themselves in a rapid way. As a result a bird can be sick with different types of illnesses such as overweight, kidney illness, disorder of the reproductive function and many others. And a shortage of vitamins and proteins weakens the defense reaction of a bird's organism and makes it susceptible to various infectious illnesses.

Grain blend is the most necessary element in a bird's ration. But the composition of the mixture should be of various grains (wheat, oats, millet, maize and so on) and seeds (canary seed, herbage seeds, seeds of lettuce) because it is very important to keep your bird robust. Also you can attach there diverse oil-bearing crops such as sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, hemp seeds and different nuts. Overweight may be provoked by oil-yielding seeds so you are to give little portions of them to avoid overuse.

A number of crop forage should correspond to the daily norm of your bird. Budgerigars should have two teaspoons a day and in the same time macaw needs 4 tablespoonfuls every day.

Also you can include in the blend different kinds of greens, fruits, vegetables, wild herbage, fresh leaves and branches of trees. Besides, animal forage must be added to a bird's meal. You can give your bird boiled hen's eggs, nonfat cottage cheese and small amount of minced meat. You must give such feeds to your bird once a week, but in moult period it will be two times a week and if it is a period of breeding - give it each day. In the bird's cage must be also situated a feeder with a piece of chalk or small stones, they are necessary for a good digestion.
